Why Might My Wisdom Tooth Need to Be Removed?
Wisdom teeth can (and often do) cause a variety of problems. Below are some of the things that can happen if a wisdom tooth becomes impacted (does not fully erupt) or otherwise does not develop properly.
- Alignment problems – Wisdom teeth that do not develop properly can put pressure on neighboring teeth, causing alignment issues that may hinder or even reverse the effectiveness of any type of dental work.
- Gum inflammation – When wisdom teeth become impacted, the surrounding gum tissue can become inflamed. This can cause discomfort as well as increase the risk for other dental issues such as cavities and gum disease. Swollen gums can create pockets between teeth. These pockets are great at harboring bacteria.
- Jawbone deterioration – Abnormal formation can cause the formation of cysts and other pockets of infection. These infections can eat away at your jawbone structure, causing serious damage.
- Sinus problems – Wisdom teeth issues can cause pressure, pain, and congestion in the sinuses.
If you think you may be suffering from any of these symptoms due to your wisdom teeth, please contact our office immediately for an examination.

You may feel pulling or pressure during the procedure, but you should not feel any pain. If you are uncomfortable at any point, please let us know immediately.
We even offer dental sedation for those who need a little extra help relaxing. We offer both inhaled sedation (laughing gas) and oral conscious sedation (pill form). These sedation methods can help you feel comfortable and at ease throughout the procedure.
