Three Good Reasons To Consider Invisalign
You’ve heard of Invisalign. You may have even heard it described as “clear braces.”
But you may not understand how it works, how it could help you, or where you can get it in Snellville, GA.
Our hope is to answer those questions — and maybe a few more — by the end of this post.
We won’t keep you in suspense about the last one, however. If you are interested in finding a dentist who provides Invisalign in our part of Georgia, then you can come to Parkway Dental.
We understand what this system can do both from our research and from seeing what it has done for patients just like you.
With that in mind, here are three reasons you may want to find out if Invisalign could help you.
» 1. Comfort
Invisalign is intended to be an alternative to braces for patients with mild or moderate misalignment issues.
One of the advantages of Invisalign is that they use plastic aligners to push your teeth. Let’s compare this to the brackets and wires used with traditional braces.
The brackets are attached to your teeth. The wire runs between the brackets, which guides your teeth by pushing and pulling them in the directions you want them to go.
In order to keep your teeth moving, you will need to have your braces adjusted regularly. Each time, there’s a good chance you will feel some pain for a few days.
Aside from that, if something goes wrong, your brackets could come loose, or the wires could break. Broken wires can poke you in the lips, cheeks, or gums. None of those things is comfortable.
Each of the Invisalign aligners is made from a single piece of a smooth plastic. There are no brackets that can pop off your teeth or wires that could scratch or poke the soft tissues of your mouth.
And you don’t need to have your aligners adjusted, which we’ll address again below.
» 2. Convenience
Many people appreciate the how convenient the Invisalign aligners are throughout their treatment.
As noted above, you need to have your braces adjusted regularly in order to keep your teeth moving. With Invisalign, you only need to replace your old aligner with the next one in the series.
Sure, we will want to check on your progress from time to time, but you won’t have to make as many trips as you would with braces.
That’s just one way Invisalign is more convenient than braces, however.
You can’t take off your braces for the two years (on average) that it takes to complete your treatment. With Invisalign, you need to wear the aligners for 22 hours per day for the one year (on average) that it takes to complete your treatment.
Those two hours allow you to do things with Invisalign that you can’t do with braces.
For one, you can eat anything that you want to eat. All you have to do is remove your aligners before meals. With braces, you will receive a list of foods to avoid because of the potential that a piece could get stuck or pull your bracket out of place.
As far as dental hygiene, it’s the same with Invisalign as what you do now since you can remove your aligners. With braces, you will need to learn new techniques and tools to keep food from getting stuck between your teeth and your braces.
» 3. Clarity
If you didn’t have any other reason to consider Invisalign, then this might convince you.
The plastic aligners you wear are transparent. As a result, most people won’t notice anything different when you have them on your teeth.
When you have metal braces, it’s pretty obvious to anyone you meet. Ceramic braces have brackets that more closely match the color of teeth. While these less obvious than metal braces, most people will still realize you have something on your teeth.
Depending on your personality or your profession, you may prefer a discreet orthodontic treatment. Knowing the aligners are transparent may help you feel more comfortable about starting the treatment.
