Many dental offices refer their patients out to oral surgeons if a wisdom tooth needs to be removed. Wisdom teeth are often more difficult to remove and therefore require a higher level of expertise to extract. At Parkway Dental, we offer oral surgery services right here in our office, including wisdom teeth extractions or the wisdom teeth removal in Snellville, GA. Below you will find more information on why you might need to have a wisdom tooth removed, the procedure, and how we can help you feel comfortable.

Why Might My Wisdom Tooth Need to Be Removed?

Wisdom teeth can (and often do) cause a variety of problems. Below are some of the things that can happen if a wisdom tooth becomes impacted (does not fully erupt) or otherwise does not develop properly.

  • Alignment problems – Wisdom teeth that do not develop properly can put pressure on neighboring teeth, causing alignment issues that may hinder or even reverse the effectiveness of any type of dental work.
  • Gum inflammation – When wisdom teeth become impacted, the surrounding gum tissue can become inflamed. This can cause discomfort as well as increase the risk for other dental issues such as cavities and gum disease. Swollen gums can create pockets between teeth. These pockets are great at harboring bacteria.
  • Jawbone deterioration – Abnormal formation can cause the formation of cysts and other pockets of infection. These infections can eat away at your jawbone structure, causing serious damage.
  • Sinus problems – Wisdom teeth issues can cause pressure, pain, and congestion in the sinuses.

If you think you may be suffering from any of these symptoms due to your wisdom teeth, please contact our office immediately for an examination.

The Extraction Process

Teeth extractions, especially wisdom teeth removal, can be scary for some people. In reality, wisdom teeth removal are common, quick, and painless procedures. With modern anesthetics and the latest tools and technology, we can conquer even the most difficult cases. And we can do it all right here in our office!

Before beginning the extraction, we will apply a local anesthetic to numb the area. After you are completely comfortable, we will skillfully and gently use our specialized tools in order to remove the tooth. You may feel pulling or pressure during the procedure, but you should not feel any pain. If you are uncomfortable at any point, please let us know immediately.

We even offer dental sedation for those who need a little extra help relaxing. We offer both nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) and oral conscious sedation (pill form). These sedation methods can help you feel comfortable and at ease throughout the procedure.
